Villa Gioia
Isola del Giglio, Tuscany

Getting Here

Giglio island is located in the southern tip of Tuscany and can be easily reached by car, train or plane. Regardless of how you travel, the destination is the small port town of Porto Santo Stefano on the Monte Argentario peninsula, from where the ferries leave for Giglio.

by Car

Coming from northern Italy, drive via Genoa/Pisa or Florence/Siena in the direction of Grosseto – the small provincial capital of the Maremma – and then take the Aurelia expressway to Albinia. After the exit follow the indications for Porto S. Stefano (Monte Argentario) for about 12 km.

If instead you are coming from the south or Rome, take the A12 motorway to Tarquinia and then follow the Aurelia expressway to Orbetello. From there it is 12 km straight across the beautiful lagoon to Porto S. Stefano (Monte Argentario).

by Train

Giglio is also very easy to reach by train: on the Genoa – Pisa – Grosseto – Rome railway line, get off at Orbetello-Monte Argentario station. The buses to Porto S. Stefano leave directly at the train station. The first bus stop in the port town is right by the ferry docks. Alternatively, from the train statrion, you can also take a taxi but better reserve it in advance.

by Plane

The closest airports to the island of Giglio are in Pisa and Rome. In Rome you will find two airports, Ciampino and Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci), where the latter is better connected to the Aurelia motorway and local trains. Both Pisa and Rome are around 160 km from the port of Porto S. Stefano.

Ferries

There are two ferry companies for the island of Giglio, Maregiglio and Toremar, offering between 4 and 10 crossings per day. If you are arriving by car, we recommend booking the ferry well in advance.

The holiday begins with the crossing of about 1 hour, during which you can enjoy the wonderful views of the Tuscan archipelago.

In cooperation with Giglioinfo.it you can check the times and rates of both ferry companies online and book the tickets eventually. On their website you will also find the timetable as an PDF:

Villa Gioia

Once arrived in Giglio Porto follow the Strada Provinciale (the only road that leads to all other towns) towards Giglio Castello. After about 1.7 km and about two hundred meters after passing the petrol station / junction for Arenella, you will find the entrance to Villa Gioia in a tight bend on the left.
